417 Park Avenue Penthouse

Midtown East, New York, 2016

This project was an alternate approach to a small project previously designed for a young doctor and his small family. The space was an upper penthouse floor at 417 Park Avenue in Manhattan. The client asked for a design solution that would improve the layout of the penthouse which included the master suite, office, and exterior terrace. With the initial layout and design as a starting point, the approach was to completely reverse the original design and orient all spaces towards the exterior terrace. This involved inverting the bathroom and access to all the spaces. The terrace became a reference point for natural light and planting that was accessible from all the new rooms including the Master Bathroom. The materials were considered decorative elements along with the plants on the terrace. The resulting project was about the use of nature and expressions in stone, wood, and light.
