Emirate Hills Villa Dubai

Emirate Hills, Dubai, 2016

This special project was for our very first client who started with plainspace in 2001. As we remained good friends since our first collaboration together our client’s career necessitated a move of his business and family to Dubai, UAE in 2016. The client had purchased an existing residential property in the Emirate Hills section of Dubai and we immediately set on transforming the old and worn-out building into a large comfortable home for our friend and his extended family. The composition of the existing house was one long wing and pool with broken opposite buildings and courtyards. The house suffered from an incomplete development and decay of the buildings from the harsh climate. Our solution was to expand the home to complete the architectural wings of the house and create a protected inner zone that was divided into a more public courtyard for functions and special social events, and a second more private courtyard with a pool and yoga temple. The elongation of the plans allowed for various additional bedrooms and formal rooms for the client’s extended and future family. The design used durable materials such as travertine throughout and became part of the house's warm and tactile aesthetic. The final space was a bridge bisecting the courtyard that became the client’s office and connection to both wings of the house and connected all family together.
